This exhibition aims to promote the development of watermark printmaking, with the protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage as the center and the promotion of artistic aesthetics as the guide. It showcases more than 80 exquisite works from the Yangtze River Delta region, interpreting the creators' unique insights into natural landscapes and social life in a simple and profound way
The watermark printmaking in Qingpu District originated in 1982 and has been passed down and innovated by generations of printmakers. It was listed as a representative work of intangible cultural heritage in Qingpu District in 2013 and was evaluated as a Shanghai municipal intangible cultural heritage project in 2023
The works exhibited in the Qingpu area this time were all created by members of the Qingpu District Watermark Printmaking Creation Center, reflecting the development process of watermark printmaking in Qingpu District and the diverse creative characteristics of several generations of printmakers
This exhibition is jointly organized by Qingpu District Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, Shanghai University, and Shanghai Artists Association. It injects new momentum into the prosperity of watermark printmaking industry and also provides a new platform and starting point for social aesthetic education work
Li Yuanpeng, director of the Qingpu District Artists Association, stated that this is an artistic practice exploration under the background of the integrated development strategy of the Yangtze River Delta. It has a positive and far-reaching impact on inheriting excellent traditional Chinese culture, promoting cultural cooperation and co construction between local and school levels, promoting cultural and artistic activities to the general public, and strengthening the linkage of art creation in the Changsanjiao region
