Born in 1924 in Huzhou, Zhejiang, skilled in printmaking. In 1938, I entered Shanghai Art College and studied woodcarving. Graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at the Guangdong Provincial Wartime Art Museum (later renamed as Guangdong Provincial Art College). In 1941, he participated in the "All China Woodcut Industry Anti Enemy Association". Formerly served as an editor, creator, and professor at Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts. He is currently the honorary president of the Zhejiang Printers Association, consultant of the Zhejiang Cartoon Research Association, and honorary librarian of the Zhejiang Provincial Museum of Literature and History. His works include "The Woodcutter", "Mr. Lu Xun", and "The Slave Who Rises from Hunger and Cold". He has also published "Selected Prints by Zhao Yannian". In 1991, he won the "Outstanding Contribution Award of China's Emerging Printmaking" jointly awarded by the China Artists Association and the China Printmaking Artists Association.
