刘钊博士，中央美术学院副教授。国际文字设计协会（Association Typographique Internationale, 简称ATypI）理事兼中国区代表，北京原创设计推广协会理事，中国美术家协会会员、中国中文信息学会汉字字形信息专业委员会委员，中央美术学院中国文字艺术设计研究中心副主任，国际非拉丁字体设计比赛(Granshan Competition)中文组主席，D&AD奖（Design and Art Direction，英国设计与艺术指导协会奖）2020、2023、2024年度评委，汉仪第六届字体之星设计大赛评委，字库厂商TypeTogether中国区经理。
2025大阪世博会中国馆文字设计顾问，中国馆荣获世博会大型自建馆展示类金奖。担任两个国家级科研项目负责人，其中“字道——汉字设计的现代之路艺术展”从2022年至今在中国大陆巡展9站，在国外3个国家巡展。获得发明专利一项。曾在中外多个城市参与展览或讲学。主创谷歌“Noto契丹小字仿宋体、女书传统体”，指导谷歌“西夏宋体”，参与Noto CJK字体汉字字库的“思源黑体”“思源宋体”（大陆、港台部分）字库设计。策划、翻译、审校了7本文字设计相关译著，产生广泛的社会影响。
教育理念是通过文字设计研究、跨学科合作与项目实践，教育与科研互为促进，培养具有民族文化传统修养和国际视野，针对中国本土市场，结合美学、科学和商学，发展出与之适应的具有未来视野的创新人才。通过文字设计更好的传承文化、传播文化，增强文化自信。

LIu Zhao
Dr. Liu Zhao is an Associate Professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts（CAFA）.She is a member of the Chinese Artists Association, an external researcher of the Institute of Modern Advertising at Peking University, member of Chinese Character Form Information Professional Committee of Chinese Information Processing Society of China, board member and China country delegate of the Association Typographique Internationale (ATypI), script chairman of the Chinese category of the International Granshan Typography Competition, judge of the D&AD Awards 2020 and 2023 in the category of Typography, Deputy Director of Chinese Typography Art and Design Research Center of Central Academy of Fine Arts, researcher of Typography Studio at Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts College at Shanghai University, Marketing manager of TypeTogether China.
Dr Liu Zhao was the leader of two national research projects, including "Way of Type – Modernisation of Chinese Typography", which has toured nine stops in mainland China and three countries abroad since 2022, with more touring plans in the future. Dr Liu Zhao’s works have twice been selected for the five-yearly National Art Exhibition. She has participated in exhibitions and lectured in many countries and cities in China and abroad. She is the curator of the "Way of Type" series of academic activities. She is the chief designer of Noto Fangsong Khitan Small Script and Noto Traditional Nushu, the consultant for the redesign of Noto Serif Tangut, and one of the designers of Noto Sans CJK and Noto Serif CJK (Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan). Leading and contributing to several typography design projects.
My educational idea is to cultivate professional design talents with the cultivation of national cultural traditions and an international perspective through the study of typography, and to guide students to develop core strategies of typography adapted to the local Chinese market by combining aesthetics, science and business studies. Through typography, we aim to better pass on and spread culture, to help improve the cultural literacy of the Chinese people, create the country’s contemporary cultural.

Nov/2023 ‘The Chinese Typewriter: A History’edited by Liu Zhao and reviewed by Zhu Kui was honored with the ‘Annual Top Ten Good Books’and the‘Annual Good Book Award - Judge’s Award’at the 24th Shenzhen Reading Month. The book received accolades for its content, writing structure, and layout design, earning the top position in the Top Ten Good Books selection.
Oct/2023 The ’24 Solar Terms - Long Year Dragon Posters of San Mountain and Wu Garden’ won the first prize in the 2024 Global Auspicious Zodiac Design Competition (Jia Chen Dragon Year), under the San Mountain and Wu Garden Special Design Unit. October/2023 Curated the parallel forum ’Way of Type’ and co-curated ’Spirits on Turtle Shells and Cattle Bones: Oracle-Bone Script Illustrated Book Exhibition’ at the 2023 China (Anyang) International Conference on Chinese Characters. Also organized the ’Visiting Campus with Domestic and International Guests and Series of Open Lectures on Chinese Character Thinking.’ The live guided tour and open lectures garnered a total of over 110,000 views.
Sep/2023 The debut and exhibition of ’Spirits on Turtle Shells and Cattle Bones,’ an oracle-bone script illustrated book, along with the ’Heart Orchid Reading’ live guided tour, were held at Sun Yirang’s former residence in Ruian. Additionally, the academic seminar ’Spirits on Turtle Shells and Cattle Bones: Research and Innovative Communication of Oracle-Bone Script’ took place at the Ruian City Library, where Liu Zhao served as the planner and co-curator.
