The new (computer) vision: deep learning, high hopes
Deep learning has revolutionized computer vision. After a short explanation of what is meant by deep learning, we show some examples of recent progress, at our own lab and elsewhere. Later in the talk we will describe the relevance deep learning has for the arts. Indeed, just like the advent of photography had a deep impact, the same kind of dramatic change can be expected to happen again, this time because of deep learning. There are many applications, also in the arts. They range from improving the quality of photos taken with cheap, everyday cameras, up to the creation of smart brushes, that change the styles of photos or paintings alike.
